Pulled BBQ Jackfruit Tacos with Sirka Pyaaz (Pickled Onions)


For Boiled Jackfruit:

  • 300 grams fresh jackfruit, boiled and shredded
  • Salt

For Pulled BBQ Jackfruit:

  • Shredded jackfruit
  • 1/2 cup Gusto's BBQ Sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

For Sirka Pyaaz (Pickled Onions):

  • 2 large red onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Gusto's Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Gusto's Lime Juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

For Tacos:

  • Soft taco shells or tortillas
  • Sliced purple cabbage
  • Fresh cilantro leaves (optional)


  1. Boil Jackfruit:
  • Boil fresh jackfruit until tender, then shred it.
  1. Make Sirka Pyaaz (Pickled Onions):
  • Mix sliced onions, Gusto's Apple Cider Vinegar, Gusto's Lime Juice, salt, chili powder (if using), and sugar (if using). Let it pickle for 2 hours at room temperature, then refrigerate.
  1. Prepare Pulled BBQ Jackfruit:
  • Sauté garlic in oil, add shredded jackfruit, paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, honey, and Gusto's BBQ Sauce. Cook for 10-15 mins.
  1. Assemble Tacos:
  • Warm taco shells, add pulled BBQ jackfruit, top with purple cabbage, and garnish with pickled onions and cilantro.
